Description Birger Toedtmann 2006-05-16 09:55:25 UTC
Distribution: Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0_pre19
Package: Evolution
Severity: Normal
Version: GNOME2.14.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Gentoo
Synopsis: Evolution displays emails twice in Inbox upon first startup
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Mailer
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description: Evolution displays emails in Inbox twice
Description of Problem:
Evolution displays emails twice in Inbox upon first startup. After
restart (of evolution), this phenomenon disappears (emails are displayed
regularly).

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Start system
2. Start evolution
3. Look at email list in Inbox

Actual Results:
When evolution is started the first time after the system start, the
emails in the Inbox are displayed twice. When I close the evolution main
window and start it the application again, emails are shown normally
(backend problem?)

Expected Results:
Should not happen, emails should be displayed in the number they appear
in the Inbox, not more.

How often does this happen?
Almost every time I first start evolution after system start.

Additional Information:
Gentoo Linux with kernel 2.6.16. Also happened with Gnome-2.12/2.10 and kernel-2.6.xx

what kind of account type is this? IMAP, IMAP4rev1, POP?
Comment 2 Birger Toedtmann 2006-05-16 13:12:24 UTC
Evolution accesses an mbox-formatted file directly. The email delivery process is done via fetchmail->sendmail->procmail->Inbox file. However, the described problem happens both when a fetching process is simultaneously running (which is of no problem due to proper locking) and when accessing a "dormant" Inbox mbox-formatted file. It also happenes with other mail folders (mbox files) when starting up evolution for the first time.

I'll attach a small picture illustrating the effect (invading on my privacy ;-))

Regards,

Birger

weird... I've never seen this with any mailbox type (I use mbox and IMAP folders extensively)
