Description John Shimmin 2006-05-16 08:12:27 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When attempting to acquire images from a scanner using TWAIN, the TWAIN plugin
crashes and scanning is not possible.

Steps to reproduce:
1. File - Acquire
2. TWAIN
3. error occurs
(at least on my system)

Actual results:
An standard Windows XP error message appears, saying that twain.exe has
encountered a problem and needs to close.
This is followed by a GIMP message, saying
Plug-in crashed: "twain.exe" [gives address of file]
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to
save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

Expected results:
Hopefully, it would scan my picture.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
Running GIMP 2.2.11 for Windows on XP Home SP2, with Trust Compact 19200 scanner.

There are already some TWAIN-related reports. Please check if you can resolve this one as a duplicate.

The long-standing brokeness of the Twain plug-in is tracked in bug #143855.

Okay, I wasn't sure if this was part of the same problem or needed a new report.
Comment 4 Sven Neumann 2006-05-17 13:28:33 UTC
Well, we also don't know. All we know is that the TWAIN plug-in has no maintainer and all we can do is to collect all bug reports about it in a single one that simply says that the plug-in is broken.
