GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 340745
Improper tamil font rendering
Last modified: 2006-05-05 15:19:54 UTC
Please describe the problem: Tamil indic-fonts are not being displayed properly in gnome-terminal/gedit when entered with tamil language interface (via gdm): http://www.shakthimaan.com/downloads/tamil/terminal.jpg The "dot", the "o" and "oo"s to characters get displaced separately and don't represent the actual Tamil character. On the other hand, if I enter into English language interface (via gdm) and use Tamil unicode keyboard, I am able to key in Tamil language characters properly: http://www.shakthimaan.com/downloads/tamil/text-editor.jpg I am currently using Ubuntu Dapper Beta on x86 IBM T41. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install Tamil language support, ttf-indic-fonts in Ubuntu Dapper Beta 2. Login to gdm by selecting Tamil language 3. Change keyboard to Tamil unicode, open vi on gnome-terminal or gedit and start typing. Actual results: The Tamil characters displayed are not actually what unicode represents. Expected results: For characters have two input key-sequences, the characters will change accordingly as per the actual, original unicode form: http://www.shakthimaan.com/downloads/tamil/text-editor.jpg Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information:
