GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339804
ms-windows-engine differences from native GUI - menubar
Last modified: 2006-09-13 18:43:15 UTC
Windows native menubars are flat while the win32 native gtk engine draws them with an etched in border.
Created attachment 64313 [details] menus.png Sample screenshots. 1st row are native toolbars, 2nd row is gtk.
Created attachment 64326 [details] explorer screenshot Actually, menu bars in Windows can be either flat or etched-in. MSIE/Explorer use etched-in, while some other Microsoft apps (eg. wordpad) use flat menubars. It might be possible to convince me not to follow MSIE's lead here.

MS Office of course doesn't use standard widgets but not having borders results in a very clean look. Added an MS Office screenshot for reference.
They're now drawn flat, as per bug 340201. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 340201 ***
