GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339596
Empty Trash has no effect on deleted files with incorrect permissions set
Last modified: 2007-05-24 18:24:24 UTC
Please describe the problem: I had a number of files and folders in trash. One of the folders was write protected. Right clicking the waste basket and selecting "empty trash" silently failed to empty the bin: it got stuck at the first write-protected file and aborted without informing me of the problem. Steps to reproduce: 1. Place a read-only file or directory in the trash icon on the desktop 2. right click the trash icon and select "empty trash" 3. Apart from the trash icon failing to empty, no feedback is given that the file(s) failed to delete. Actual results: Expected results: I would expect right clicking the trash icon and selecting "empty trash" to produce the same result as navigating to the waste basket via nautilus and selecting File->Empty Wastebasket. While here, I am given the warning that the files failed to delete because I had insufficient privalages. It would be useful to have the same behaviour reproduced on right click of the waste basket icon on the desktop. Does this happen every time? Other information: While I'm on the subject, depending on which icon I'm looking at, it seems to be called either "trash" or "waste basket". Perhaps it would be better to stick to one name or the other, for the sake of consistency.

Thanks for your bug report! > While I'm on the subject, depending on which icon I'm looking at, it seems to be called either "trash" or "waste basket". You're probably using a UK-localized version. This hints at incomplete translations. CCing David Lodge <dave@cirt.net> since he is the last translator.
