GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339145
Dragging and dropping a location from the Places menu to the desktop does not successfully create a proper link
Last modified: 2006-04-20 10:49:27 UTC
File in the ubuntu bugtracker here: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/40303 1. Drag and drop the link to "Home" from the Places menu onto the desktop. 2. Attempt to drag a file into the resulting link to the home folder. This fails (I think) because of this bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313877 What should happen, I think, is that when I drag and drop the Home folder from the places menu onto the desktop, nautilus should set the gconf key /apps/nautilus/desktop/home_icon_visible to true. That would enable the user to copy files to the link. Given that that gconf key is not very obvious for the user, it might be quite common for a user to try dragging and dropping the link from the Places menu in this way, and it should work. Matt

Good idea! I think we should do this for Home, Trash, Computer and Network.
Same issue than bug #338700, feel free to argue on the other bug on how to fix it *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 338700 ***
