Description Alejandro Andrés 2006-04-15 16:09:30 UTC
Please describe the problem:
While 'surfing' a menu, if a button that controls the volume is pressed, nothing
happens, but if you click out of the menu, they continue working...
By button I refer to the volume up/down physical buttons of my laptop.

Steps to reproduce:
1.Click on the Gnome Foot Menu (or any other menu of panel!)
2.Press volume buttons... they do not work but if you close the menu... they go
on working

Does this happen every time?

In fact, this applies to all GNOME hotkeys. For some reason, if a menu of any kind is displayed, neither of hotkeys works. I believe that's because keyboard events are caught by Gtk+ menus and do not reach Metacity which should process hotkeys.

Yes, you've correctly identified why this doesn't work (also known as mouse and keyboard grabs in X). Not exactly easy to fix (maybe not even realistic, dunno), but I filed a bug about it and the many cases we should consider.
