GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 338231
Stopped recognising MIME types by file content
Last modified: 2006-04-12 21:10:20 UTC
That bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37448 "In warty (and possibly hoary), when I had a file without an extension, nautilus would look inside the file to determine its MIME type, and launch the appropriate application to view it when doubleclicked. In breezy, this is not the case anymore. If I have (for example) a PDF or PostScript file without an extension, its type doesn't seem to get detected. The file HAS to have the proper file extension (.pdf or .ps) ... I've got the same problem. I named my postscript files .postscript and nautilus didn't register evince as app to view it. ... > Thanks for your bug. Are you trying to open them from a locale location? ... Assuming you mean 'local', then yes. I'm trying this on my desktop and in my homedir (both on local disk)"
