With the current gnome-audio-profiles code it is not possible for other packages to install schemas, as the code depends on there being a list of active profiles.  If this this was ignored, and instead the code simply enumerated the directories, then other packages (say Sound Juicer) could ship extra profiles.

Why would s-j ship its own profiles? I can see the point of, say, extra gst plugins shipping profiles, but why s-j?

Because Thomas refused to ship gnome-media with a MP3 profile, and I'm getting fed up of telling people how to add a MP3 profile.

Add a MP3 profile to gnome-media and I'll be happy.

I'm working on it. I'm maintainer, not Thomas. I was atually just working on that bug, with a bit of luck, the next 2.17 release will have it.
