Description Sebastian Dröge (slomo) 2006-03-29 18:42:37 UTC
Please describe the problem:
On latest Ubuntu Dapper with gnome-media 2.14.0, gstreamer 0.10.4,
gst-plugins-base 0.10.5 it's not possible to test the selected input plugin
unless it's 'silence' or 'testaudiosrc'.

The error message is "Failed to construct test pipeline for 'ALSA - Advanced
Linux Sound Architecture'" or the equivalent for OSS. Setting the output plugin
to something else doesn't change anything.

Running the gstreamer-properties pipeline with gst-launch works fine:

gst-launch-0.10 alsasrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! alsasink
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is live and does not need PREROLL ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: audioclock0
Caught interrupt -- Pausing pipeline.
Pipeline paused.
WARNING: Element "pipeline0" warns: pipeline interrupted

GST_DEBUG=3 output of gstreamer-properties with alsasrc:
http://librarian.launchpad.net/1894688/gst-alsa.txt

GST_DEBUG=3 ouput of gstreamer-properties with osssrc:
http://librarian.launchpad.net/1894693/gst-oss.txt

Steps to reproduce:
1. start gstreamer-properties
2. test the input plugin

Actual results:
it fails with the error mentioned above

Expected results:
it would work as expected

Does this happen every time?
yes

I can confirm this bug, and I've seen at least two other people on Ubuntu Forums having similar problems.

Any messages on the commandline? It works for me... What kind of soundcard do you have? Is it capable of being opened multiple times (test by doing on the commandline "gst-launch sinesrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! alsasink device=hw:0" in two different terminals at the same time).

Comment 4 Sebastian Dröge (slomo) 2007-01-07 11:48:38 UTC
This seems to be fixed now... probably by one of the many gstreamer updates since then or gnome-media 2.16 or 2.17
