GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 336028
Need way to delete from search window
Last modified: 2008-01-13 12:21:43 UTC
A legitimate use case for a search window is to look for items matching some criterion and delete all of them. Or the user might simply look at an item ina search and decide that she doesn't need them anymore. So the user should be able to move an item directly from a search window to the trash. I understand that a search is a virtual folder but the user strongly expects items to be deletable, to the point that it is a shock that the item is grayed out. This expectation is reinforced because you can drag and drop fom a search folder to a regular folder. Currently it is very cumbersome to delete an item in a search because there isn't even a context menu item like "open containing folder" or something. Other information:
I can confirm this. A workaround is the 'Search for Files' dialog in the gnome panel under Places. You can move found items to the Trash from there. Unfortunately, it is not possible to delete them directly, but I guess that's okay for most users.
