GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 336009
Metadata changes are not written to disk
Last modified: 2007-02-21 13:37:55 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I change the song metadata after I've imported the songs, the changes are not written to the disk (which makes me wonder how banshee can remember the changes). Also, the changes do not rename files or folders. Steps to reproduce: 1. Import a song from outside of the local library 2. Edit the metadata 3. Play the song or view the file in a file browser, the changes will not appear. Actual results: The song metadata does not change and neither do file names or folder names. Expected results: The song metadata should change accordingly and so should file and folder names. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information:
Metadata is not written back to files on purpose right now. Support for this will be added in the future. However, if the "Copy on Import" option in Preferences is enabled, songs should be moved/renamed when edited. I may consider another explicit option to do this even if copy is not enabled.
Changing the status of this bug to feature enhance as Aaron is aware that metadata isn't written back on purpose and is on the list to be added in the future. I may also suggest adding this to the Feature Request page on the wiki at http://www.banshee-project.org/FeatureRequest
I guess this is related to this bug; When I click "change metadata", change a song's title and press "save", in the gui the titel is changed but when I play hte file teh old title is displayed instead of the new one. After reloading banshee the "new" title is shown again but when when playing the song, the old titel is shown (both in the playlist and on top of the gui). Though this is known, it *is* a bug as I expect it to (even if metadata is only in the db and not in the file) show the "new" title. There also should be made a way to force writing metadata to the file. I guess it's disabled because you don't want the metadata changer plugin to write it's changes on the file or something ? Well, when I change metadata manually I do want to write it to the file or to have a checkbox or somthing to force writing it to the file so I can see the metadata in other players / on other hardware.
Moving to the Metadata component.
This is an experimental feature in-testing in CVS HEAD. As long as it goes well, you will see this in 0.11.0 or early in the release series.
