Comment 1 Vladimir Vuksan 2006-04-11 19:48:03 UTC
I am getting the exact same error message. I did a network sniff to figure out what the problem is. What I noticed is that the Basic Authorization Credentials are wrongly passed. For example in Firefox the Authorization Credentials header looks

Credentials: firstname.lastname.domain.com:mysecretpassword

whereas Evolution sends credentials as

Credentials: domain.com\firstname.lastname

This results in 401 Access Denied error message.

I checked

~/.gconf/apps/evolution/mail/gconf.xml

to figure out if I can see whether that config option is set there and it is not so it looks like the application actually breaks down the credentials into DOMAIN\USERNAME format.

I am running evolution 2.6.0-2 under OpenSuse 10.1beta8.

Vladimir
Comment 2 Dominic Harvey 2006-04-11 20:13:22 UTC
I just verified my network trace and a notice the same behavior!

How about Evolution 2.4?

Comment 3 Vladimir Vuksan 2006-04-11 20:38:15 UTC
In my last comment I made a typo. Firefox provides following credentials ie.

Credentials: firstname.lastname@domain.com:mysecretpassword

I did a network trace on OpenSuse 10.0 with evolution 2.4.0-3.4 and credentials are the same as with Firefox e.g.

Credentials: firstname.lastname@domain.com:mysecretpassword

Comment 4 Sushma Rai 2006-04-12 04:52:34 UTC
Dominic Harvey,

Your username is "dominic.harvey" ?
Since your account setup is successful, I don't think there
is a problem with your credentials.
"Can not connect to exchange backend process" problem,
while evolution-exchange-storage is running, due to socket connection
failure between Exchange connector and evolution processes.

Accessing your contacts and calendar items work for you?
Comment 5 Vladimir Vuksan 2006-04-12 11:32:11 UTC
Sushma,

Unfortunately nothing works. The problem is authentication. The account setup my complete successfully but normal operation after that doesn't. Based on the network sniffs it is presenting the wrong credentials ie. my username is

firstname.lastname@domain.com

and Evolution will transpose this to

domain.com\firstname.lastname

There appears to be a change from version 2.4.
Comment 6 Dominic Harvey 2006-04-12 12:06:30 UTC
During my Exchange account setup the authentication work well. After that, i cannot do anything in my Exchange Account. Nothing work mail, contact calender, nothing.

I notice the same behavior that Vladimir reports.
Comment 7 Vladimir Vuksan 2006-04-12 15:59:06 UTC
I did a network sniff while creating the account in Evolution and the wizard sends out the correct authentication e.g

firstname.lastname@domain.com

Only after the wizard is done authentication string changes to

domain.com\firstname.lastname
Comment 8 Dominic Harvey 2006-04-12 16:23:45 UTC
Is-it in the connector or in the data-server or in evolution module? Is somebody can try to modify the source and rebuild a bin using the firstname.lastname@domain.com authentication.

i am not sur if i can do it myself ;)

Comment 9 Andrig Miller 2006-04-14 20:54:39 UTC
I get the same problem using the following components:

evolution-2.6.0-1
evolution-data-server-1.6.0-1

running on Fedora Core 5. One thing to add is that if you go into the preferences after you have setup the account you get the following error message:

Could not authenticate to server.

Make sure the username and password are correct and try again.

Clearly the authentication is broken.
Comment 10 Sushma Rai 2006-04-15 07:24:06 UTC
Dominic Harvey and Vladimir Vuksan:

Can you try accessing your account using OWA, using username as

1. just firstname.secondname (and not firstname.secname@domain)
and see if it works?

2. Also, can you please try domain\firstname.secondname ?

Andrig Miller, Your problem is already reported as bug #329371.

Comment 11 Andrig Miller 2006-04-15 13:29:20 UTC
I tried both firstname.secondname with the @domain and it does not work. I also tried domain\firstname.secondname, and additionally I tried domain/firstname.secondname.

None of these work.
Comment 12 Vladimir Vuksan 2006-04-15 17:40:45 UTC
Same here. I tried all possible permutations connecting to OWA using a browser. Nothing other than firstname.lastname@domain.com works.

We are using an Exchange hosted service so I can't change my username.

Patch

This patch is only for 2-14 stable branch.
Comment 14 Sushma Rai 2006-04-17 04:35:14 UTC
Dominic Harvey and Vladimir Vuksan: This patch should fix your issues.

Andrig Miller, You have problem with account creation itself.
And this bug is about not being able to access the account after successful
account creation with username as e-mail id. Please comment on bug #329371.
Also, about your comment #11, were you trying OWA or Evolution?
Comment 15 Andrig Miller 2006-04-17 15:50:45 UTC
Actually, I just typo'd my comment from before. I meant to say firstname.lastname without the @domain, instead of with. I successfully was using Evolution 2.4 with this account just like everyone else that has commented. I can also successfully authenticate in the account setup wizard. Also, I have had to fall back to using OWA to continue to work. When will the patch be apart of the Fedora Core updates?
Comment 16 Sushma Rai 2006-04-18 04:06:28 UTC
Not sure about Fedora updates, but this will be available in
Evolution-2.6.2, which will be released on May 31st.
Comment 17 Sushma Rai 2006-04-18 14:49:03 UTC
Fix committed to gnome-2-14 branch.
Please test this (in 2.6.2) and re-open the bug if there are still issues.
Comment 18 Dominic Harvey 2006-04-18 15:00:22 UTC
I tryed and it fixed my problem. Thanks!
Comment 19 Sushma Rai 2006-04-18 15:28:47 UTC
Thanks for quickly testing this :)
