GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 335089
ekiga doesn't support ESD and error message unclear
Last modified: 2006-03-19 10:19:22 UTC
Please describe the problem: ekiga 2.0.1 doesn't work well if the ESD sound daemon is running on the computer (which is the case for at least ubuntu breezy and dapper). When ESD is running on the computer the sound test in the initial configuration druid fails, and also calling fails in the application with an error message which does not mention that ESD might the source of the problem. I think that given that ESD is still a quite spread technology on linux, ekiga should either support it (didn't gnomemeeting did? i think it did..) or mention clearly in the linux error messages that having a running ESD could be the reason why sound doesn't work. also see the ubuntu bug: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ekiga/+bug/30578/ all the users in that bug, like me, understood that ESD is the source of that problem, but beginners won't understand that without a clear error message at least. Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
Thanks for the report but it is already known (and is an esd problem). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 334478 ***
