Description Karsten Bräckelmann 2006-03-01 18:25:42 UTC
The root nodes in the tree are not marked for translation in *all* components but Mailer.

Strings Components
On This Computer Address Book, Calendar, Tasks, Memos
On The Web Calendar, Tasks, Memos
 On LDAP Servers Address Book
 Contacts Calendar
 Weather Calendar
 CalDAV Calendar

Maybe even more with other plugins.

Probably a duplicate, but I couldn't find it...
Comment 1 Karsten Bräckelmann 2006-03-02 01:31:52 UTC
Guess, Andre adding deps counts as confirmation. ;) Doing so.
Comment 2 André Klapper 2006-07-17 12:24:51 UTC
"on this computer" and "on the web" tree nodes *ARE* translated in memo, but not in the calendar and task component. evolution 2.7.4 here.

*** Bug 350807 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 4 André Klapper 2006-08-10 22:34:35 UTC
it's also not translated in the "import" dialog (see bug 350807, thanks seb!) and the "autocompletion" dialog in the preferences, and a billion other places i guess...

marking for 2.8, this really looks shabby...
Comment 5 André Klapper 2006-08-25 12:41:46 UTC
at least the strings of the headings in the calendar list pane are stored in gconf's /apps/evolution/calendar/sources - so once they are initialised in english, there's no easy way for the user to get a translated string again; he can only edit the gconf keys.
Comment 6 ushveen kaur 2006-09-27 09:53:07 UTC
The strings ARE marked for translation, but they are translated only in mail.

Bumping version to a stable release.
Comment 8 Matthew Barnes 2008-04-23 02:29:59 UTC
I think I know what's going on with this one.

Those strings get stored in GConf in those "sources" XML blobs right alongside user-defined source names, and E-D-S loses track of which is which. So the language in which you initially run Evolution is the language in which they remain.

I remember pondering on this a year or so ago and am still not sure what to do. The source names may be translated strings from a different language, so I can't exactly convert it to the current language's translation.

I guess if we just care about new users, we could store the untranslated name in the XML blob and add a translate="yes|no" attribute to the <group> tag.

This sounds quite similar to bug #362754 which contains fix already, just waiting for a review.
Comment 10 Matthew Barnes 2009-08-25 15:45:03 UTC
Bug #362754 fixed this, though less than ideally.

Closing as obsolete.

Why "less than ideally"? I cannot think of better approach.
