GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 332111
Gnome-Screensaver Advanced Usability Consideration
Last modified: 2006-02-23 00:14:19 UTC
Please consider having a 'Customize' button to configure the screensavers. It is very irritating not having this very basic functionality. Usability wise it would detract little to none from ignorant newbies. But it would keep the users who actually know what they are doing from feeling like they are being purposefully handicapped. An advanced user is still a user, and usability should be seen from their vantage point as well. So I ask that you please reconsider the decision to not have settings. Whats the point of having a screen saver that scrolls text if you can't specify the text to scroll easily. Or a slideshow with a preset path? The method chosen only hinders usability. Lots of people do not like the dumbing down of gnome-screensaver as can be seen here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=120071&highlight=gnome-screensaver and here they are pointing out the absurdity of how Gnome project thinks reduction==simplification: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=122823&highlight=gnome-screensaver and here is somebody changing desktops because of their irritation with the decision: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=122254&highlight=gnome-screensaver and here is another bug which I just found: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316654
