GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 331036
mnemonic used three times in "view" main menu
Last modified: 2006-06-21 04:29:37 UTC
"Tool_bar", "Status _Bar" and "Side _Bar" in the view menu use B as mnemonic. so we use as mnemonics: abbbcdeghlmnooprstuwxz so left are only: fkqvy (ij are not allowed) and there are no strings containing an f, q or k. :-( we should have a general mnemonic review for the 2.7 cycle, sigh... there's lots of other stuff i'm perhaps going to add here.
Confirming. *sigh*
Hmm. It was done purposefully lately. Since it wasnt possible to find a unique mnemonic. Thought that related things have same mnemonic. also It isnot a freq used menu item. Can be solved only if we create a submenu and all these under it. I would prefer OK to leave it as it is, unless something pops out. andre: Any thoughts?
hi srini, ok, let's summarize this: 22 items in the menu, and only 26 letters. we have 3 b mnemonics: sidebar, status bar, toolbar we have 2 o mnemonics: show hidden messages, zoom out MNEMONICS IN USE: abbbcde gh lmnoop rstu wx z UNUSED: f ijk q v y f,j,k,q do not exist. i,v,y exist. y and g both only exist in "group by threads", so using y is useless. remaining unused mnemonics: i,v this means that we will always have one duplicated mnemonic, no matter what we do. but we can wipe out two. :-) PROPOSAL: Side _Bar -> S_ide Bar Status _Bar -> Stat_us Bar C_urrent View -> Current _View the 2 o mnemonics remain and cannot be fixed. i also checked the other components for this, not only mailer. it would work. so, any volunteer nosips? ;-)
Hmm you are right. we will have dupes at any cost. I made this patch purposefully for 3 _b's, and these are gonna be rarely/one time used stuff, thought shouldnt be much important menu items compared to the rest. _i is a violation. Even if we plan to use _i I whould like to use for 'H_idden' and solve _o which could be more imporant than this. Just a thought :).
fixed in head.
