GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 331018
Better descriptions for Delete and Move to Trash
Last modified: 2009-04-13 10:56:14 UTC
When hovering Delete and Move to Trash in the right-click menu, or in the edit menu, the status bar shows little and not-so-informative messages: "Remove selection" and "Move selection to trash" They could be more informative, to explain to users the difference of Delete and Move to Trash. Suggestions: "Remove the selected item from the playlist/library" "Move the actual file to the system trash". Perhaps, a good idea would be to rename the items themselves too, f.e. the Delete could be renamed Remove from Playlist. (seeing that this is already discussed in bug 128408, I won't go into that)
Created attachment 59656 [details] [review] More descriptive Move to Trash message I updated the Move to Trash message to be a bit more descriptive. I didn't do the remove selection one because currently the same status bar message is used for both library and playlists. Since the effect of those actions is a little different (removing from a playlist isn't as permanent as removing from the library) and saying "removing item from playlist/library" looked a little awkward, maybe custom messages should be made for playlists vs. library.
that is similar to bug #128408
Created attachment 100841 [details] [review] Fixed patch The original patch no longer applies cleanly - I have attached an updated patch for the latest trunk. (As far as I can see the second string cannot be easily updated for the reason mentioned earlier).
I don't see how this improves the description at all. The user isn't selecting files, they're selecting songs, and "system trash" doesn't mean anything more than just "trash".
