Description David Prieto 2006-02-09 20:48:53 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Currently scrolling the mouse wheel up in Totem advances the scrollbar, while
scrolling it down rewinds.

Every other app on Gnome behaves exactly the opposite way, scrolling down means
down/right and scrolling up means up/left. Since advancing the film means
scrolling RIGHT the scrollbar, it should be done scrolling down.

Take rhythmbox for example, what happens when you scroll down? That it advances.

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Does this happen every time?

Actually, I think that it's Rhythmbox that's got it wrong.
For me scrolling down means going backwards, and scrolling up means going forward.
Comment 2 David Prieto 2006-02-09 23:57:41 UTC
Actually, it means the same to me. But if you think about it, it makes no sense: any kind of document starts on the upper side and ends on the lower side (take webpages for example), so scrolling down would mean going forward.

Besides, I don't care that much, scrolling up feels more natural to me too... It's just for Gnome consistency, which seems to be so important.

Fair enough, we agree then :)
Reassigning to Rhythmbox
Comment 4 James "Doc" Livingston 2006-02-11 00:49:51 UTC
This is the same as bug 164351, which I meant to re-assign to Totem the other day :)

Currently Totem and Gnome Sound Recorder go one way, Rhythmbox, Sound Juicer and Gnome CD Player go the other way, and Banshee doesn't do either. We had a 15 minute debate about this the other day on #gnome-hackers, which had 3 people in favour of Totem's way, four in favour of RB's and 2 in favour of doing nothing.

How we are going to sort this out I don't know.
