Description Alexander van Loon 2006-01-26 15:50:25 UTC
When you have F-Spot installed and you connect a camera, the default GNOME
(gthumb?) photo import dialog still comes up. You choose "Ignore" for this
dialog, because you want to import the photos in F-Spot.

So, that default dialog should be disabled when F-Spot is installed.

I don't think the solution is to not show the dialog, but to allow the user to change the application that dialog triggers. This can be changed by setting the gconf key

/desktop/gnome/volume_manager/autophoto_command

That used to be editable via a GUI in Ubuntu, but on Dapper at least it seems they have removed it.

Perhaps the best solution is for F-Spot to have a checkbox in the Preferences that tells it to be the default photo app and set that key. Larry?

Yes, this is good suggestion I would say.

of course, with the http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324702 bug fixed, as well as Changing default Photo directory (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329037) and Default Directory structure (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329040)
Comment 3 Bengt Thuree 2006-02-21 13:06:30 UTC
Stupid question perhaps. But if a user uses this feature in the preferences and sets F-Spot to be the default Photo application. Later on he changes his mind, and de-installs (or simply stops using it). At that time how would he get back to dappers (or whatever distributions) default setting?

Really this requires a .desktop standard that advertises what hardware operations the application supports.

gnome-volume-properties is the name of the configuration capplet.

Filed bug #506169 on g-v-m about the possibility of a .desktop standard.
Comment 7 Stephane Delcroix 2008-05-19 12:00:20 UTC
there's a .desktop standard now with nautilus 2.22 and f-spot implements it.
