What should be the purpose of that systray icon in your opinion? Can you describe the desired bahvaior more detailed? NEEDINFO.

(Please reopen the bug, when answering.)

Thanks for the quick respons!

Desired behaviour would include:

1- The ability to close to systray instead of shutting down when pressing the close button (selectable in preferences)

2- Icon changing when new mail has arrived.

3- Icon changing on scheduled meeting time (agenda)

4- Ability to compose a new email when right clicking icon and selecting it from menu.

5- Tooltips for mail/agenda/todo

Regards, Youri

Now these are a bunch of independant issues. :)

re 1: This is a request that has been discussed pretty often. Basically, the "tray" is not intended for stuff like this (thus it's name "notification area"). Minimizing an app is the window managers duty anyway. And "closing into the tray" just means, "get rid of of the entry in the window list applet". Beside, it will be confusing, cause Evo will not be closed, but still run and consume resources (like memory).

re 2: Duplicate of bug 127516. AApart from this bug, there are a bunch of apps available, that acctually do this: Sitting in the tray and notifying about new mails. Some generic ones, some with pretty tight Evo integration. And Evo already is capable of sending dbus messages on mail arrival. Catching and displaying them is the duty of an other app. Notifications can be in any form a hacker can think of in this case. Already implemented.

re 3: Alarm notifications. Already implemented and part of Evo. The forthcoming Evo 2.6 even will show an icon and notify about due appointments. Considering this one fixed.

re 4: IMHO this would be a wontfix.

re 5: I believe this already is part of the Desktop. The Clock Panel queries e-d-s and displays Tasks and Appointments (even without Evo running).

I'm going to mark this as a duplicate of bug 127516, so your thoughts won't be forgotton but always visible when dealing with that bug.

Thanks for taking the time to report this. Please feel free to report any further bugs you find or suggestions.
