GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 327768
"From" field should be simpler and easier to read
Last modified: 2006-01-20 17:56:01 UTC
Currently the "From" field of the message list pane shows the full name and e-mail address of the sender as follows: "Full Name" <mailaddress@somewhere.com>. This leads to an unnecessarily cluttered and not so easy to read message list. In addition, the whole string of characters is not usually visible due to its length (i.e. entries usually end up being shown as "Full Name" <mailaddr...). A proposal could be to show only the full name in the "From:" field. If the current functionality must be kept (i.e. showing e-mail address also), this could be made optional. Another suggestion could be to define a new, let's say, "simple Form:" field and retain the current "Form:" without changes. This "simple Form" (or whatever name it might have) could then be made available in the "Show fields" dialog and chosen by the user if desired.
Mailer. :)
Yes, the email address and the name are absolutely necessary. Most people with multiple email addresses do at least have two addresses with the same real name. Using multiple accounts it is even possible to use different real names for the very same email address.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 225392 ***
I apologise for the duplicate. I had just reported my first bug ever, and I guess I had not researched well enough whether it had already been submitted or not. That'll teach me for the next time...
Doh! "Message list pane", right. Please ignore my comment #2, I was confused. ;) Yes, Andre is right of course. Bernat: Don't worry about the duplicate. Searching bugzilla before filing is good, but it is easy to overlook an already filed bug/enhancement.
