GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 326834
Compressed archive of home directory corrupted
Last modified: 2006-01-13 19:25:52 UTC
Distribution: Ubuntu 5.10 (breezy) Package: nautilus Severity: Normal Version: GNOME2.12.1 2.12.1 Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu Synopsis: Compressed archive of home directory corrupted Bugzilla-Product: nautilus Bugzilla-Component: general Bugzilla-Version: 2.12.1 BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.12.0) Description: Description of the crash: I want to make a back-up of my home directory using nautilus. I browse to /home then right-click my directory and select to create an archive. I keep the default name (alexandre.tar.gz) and location (my home directory). The list of files is gathered, then archiving and compression take place. I don't get any error message. When I look at the file, it's 44 MB in size, which is *way* smaller than what I'd expect. And I can't open it again. I believe I get an error message about archive being truncated or something similar. I don't get this problem when I don't compress the "hidden" files and directories from my home directory. I have done "chmod -R a+r,u+w *" on my whole home directory, without success. I have yet to find where this comes from. Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Compress the contents of my home directory from the context menu of Nautilus 2. Try to reopen archive Expected Results: A complete compressed archive of my home directory that I can reopen later on. How often does this happen? This did not happen when I last made a back-up of my home directory, last week.
