GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 326162
when connecting to a streaming radio station, the user interface locks up
Last modified: 2006-03-18 18:09:54 UTC
Please describe the problem: This is filed into user interface instead of internet radio, because, well, it's an interface bug. I noticed the whole Rhythmbox ui freezes completely when you doubleclick a streaming radio to play. There is no feedback of "trying to connect please wait" whatsoever. The stream connects, eventually (after a few seconds), the problem is that the gui is locked during those seconds. You cannot minimize to tray, and you cannot click (activate) any widget in rhythmbox, and the operation cannot be cancelled. Steps to reproduce: 1. I use http://streams.frequence3.net/ogg-112.m3u for testing 2. Start the radio and try clicking other GUI elements or sending rhythmbox to the tray. 3. You can also try juggling between streams, I'm sure you will feel this "slugginess". Actual results: The UI is unresponsive. Expected results: Unfreeze the UI, or at least provide a visual feedback of the progress, or, at the very least, provide a way to CANCEL the operation. I don't like doing killall rhythmbox. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
This is a old bug, that hasn't been fixed yet due to GStreamer issues. Now that GStreamer 0.10 is out, we should hopefully be able to fix this. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 128106 ***
Well just for your information, this DOES happen with RB 0.9.2 using GST 0.10.x
Jeff, there's a patch in bug #128106 meant for use with gstreamer 0.10 that was committed to rb long after the 0.9.2 release.
Using 0.9.3.1 now, and still has somewhat the same problems. It does not lock up "while" connecting now, it lockups after 3 seconds of play.. And it brings the system down with it. The thing is, I have yet to be able to play an OGG radio with rhythmbox; what's up with the ogg format? Anything I should be aware of? Radios switch by themselves to another radio (??? is this a fallback feature?), lock the system, or just cut off and display a stop sign. I don't exactly know in what direction of the problem I should look anymore.
Open a new bug, that sounds like a different issue...
