GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 326157
Opening mail in external window from Search does not display the contents
Last modified: 2013-08-09 22:30:23 UTC
Apply a search to a mail folder. I used Saved Searches for this, preview pane disabled. Open one of the mails in an external window. Results: The mail window appears *blank*. Reproducible: No. :-/ Yes, I am aware this is not much worth ATM. I'll try to reliably reproduce this later. In fact, it used to be broken all day long today and yesterday, when I actually needed it. Now I just did this by accident and guess what -- got the fucking mail content. This is so annoying...
NEEDINFO to remind myself I need to find out how to reproduce.
*poke*
Need to investigate more and hopefully come up with a test case.
Closing this bug report as no further information has been provided. Please feel free to reopen this bug if you can provide the information asked for. Sorry, dude. 10 months should really be enough.
perhaps a duplicate of bug 354423, by the way.
Reopening. Still can reproduce, though I don't see a consistent pattern...
OK, did some quick tests to finally get a pattern. Searching for a string did not show this broken behaviour. However, one of my saved searches seem to reliably show this. The saved search I just checked is "all unread mail, including the full thread". Opening mails marked as read do show up fine. Mails marked as unread seem to trigger this reliably. Still should test more possible cases...
Yes, bug 354423 probably is a duplicate of this one. However, if it is: We need the more serious rewrite approach, not the hack. Note that read messages did show up fine in my tests. Which are part of the list, pulled in due to including the entire thread. Also, if we would be serious about removing messages from the list which is displayed (unread messages) because we opened the message, this feature would be totally useless. Don't remove the mail from the list. What is a search for unread messages worth, if we can not read them?

Any luck with 2.26.x or later version ?
This works now. See Milan's fix in bug 467892. Marking as a duplicate of that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 467892 ***
