GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 325224
Normalize audio volume
Last modified: 2018-05-24 11:01:44 UTC
On large libraries and while listening to files from various different sources, it is common for files to be encoded at different volume settings. This forces the user to have to constantly adjust the audio volume every time the app starts playing a new song. It would be nice to have an option to normalize the volume to a value specified by the audio volume slider, instead of simply using that slider to adjust the alsa mixer volume.
If your files have replay gain tags, rhythmbox will automatically adjust the song volume ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replay_Gain for more info about replay gain).
Is this issue still valid ? Seems to be already fixed.
Well I'm still hearing tunes at different volumes and have to adjust the sound to get higher volume on the low-volume ones, so the issue isn't resolved from a user stand-point, but if normalization is only supposed to work for files with replay gain tags, then I guess it's working as designed.

Shouldn't this feature be a user switched option vs. an "always on option"? Thanks for noticing this issue!
There seems to be a replaygain plugin in rhythmbox now, disabled by default. Is this bug report still relevant?
Virtually all of the audio sources that I listen to (i.e. YouTube) are hard to hear. I always have my volume controls boosted to the max and it never gets loud enough. This is very inconvient.

I have a new email address... And this problem is still annoying...
