GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 324746
Special URI locations - applications and preferences
Last modified: 2005-12-30 19:17:03 UTC
Please describe the problem: There is in the Documentation: http://gnome.org/learn/users-guide/2.10/ch06s08.html#gosnautilus-TBL-479 Unfortunately those URIs don't work. The /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/vfolders doesn't exist. I've been trying GNOME LiveCD 2.12 (based on Ubuntu) - sth like this doesn't work nor exist either. I _suspect_ that something changed but it seems to be undocumented. Is there any easy way of configuring preferences/applications/menus? Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a more useful description to this bug.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html "404 - NOT FOUND" ;-) The problem is that requesting URIs: preferences:/// preferences-all-users:/// applications:/// application-all-users:/// results in 'NOT VALID LOCATION" error.
You are right that these vfolder locations were removed, I think beginning with GNOME 2.8 or 2.10, when we switched to "gnome-menus", a freedesktop.org menu spec implementation. We don't have full feature parity yet - editing all users' application/preferences menus should probably be done through sabayon [1], and the user-specific menu editor can be fired up when right-clicking the menubar. [1] http://www.gnome.org/projects/sabayon/
This is still a valid documentation bug, however, since 2.10 is the newest user guide listed and it at www.gnome.org/learn and it lists these URIs in multiple places.
there is now a patch to fix this - marking as dup of that bug *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 324966 ***
