GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 324666
sort by album should use as a second criterion the artist column.

First of all, sort your music by the 'Album' column. When you have several albums with the same name, (for example, "Unplugged") the second criteria is the track number. So, for example, I get the following order: \/ 1 | You Learn | Alanis Morrisette | Unplugged | 1 | Nutshell | Alice In Chains | Unplugged | 2 | Joining You | Alanis Morrisette | Unplugged | 2 | Brother | Alice In Chains | Unplugged | 3 | No Pressur..| Alanis Morrisette | Unplugged | ...and so on. The optimal would be to use as second criterion the artist column, so you could listen the albums one after the other and not all mixed.
That won't work for albums with songs by multiple artists, since sorting by artist name puts all the songs out of order. I don't know about anyone else, but I've got a lot more of those than I have duplicate album names. I suppose this is another reason rhythmbox should distinguish between single and multiple artist albums.
This is basically a "need to handle compilation albums, albums of same name" issue, so marking as a dupe of 318579. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 318579 ***
