Description Daniel Frey 2005-11-20 15:22:35 UTC
After writing a CD, there is already a window that remains open with a single
"close"-button. Why not move the "eject disc" option there? Either move the
checkbox, or change it into a new button. To me it seems more intuitive to make
the decision to the point where the action would take place (in case you decide
you want to eject the disc).

Or maybe we should just unconditionally eject the disc.

Please don't - I have an aluminium plate in front of my drive, which bangs at
the glass front of the hifi-tower when the drive door opens automatically when
plate and glass door are closed.

I've decided to eject the disc in all cases. I appologize for the inconvenience this may cause but I really think this is the right thing in the vast majority of cases. I'll accept a patch to have a GConf key (with no UI) to disable this behavior.

The main reason for that would be laptops (or most desktops). Ejecting the CD might mean that the CD tray will be in an awkward position, where you might break it (for laptops), or just gathering dust if the computer is left unattended (in the case of desktops).

Shouldn't the default be to not eject instead, and tell the layers below (in particular HAL and gnome-vfs) that the media will need reinserting to be useful?

Yeah, OK.

So, I've changed it again. Now in CVS there is an Eject button at completion and it doesn't eject by default. Still need to eject on most hardware but at least it won't go slamming into doors.
