GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 321680
gnome-panel 2.13.2 does not handle transparent PNG backgrounds correctly
Last modified: 2006-01-09 21:24:52 UTC
Please describe the problem: With GNOME 2.12 I was able to use a PNG with alpha transparency as a background in GNOME Panels, but with gnome-panel 2.13.2 they are not rendered correctly on the desktop. Solid color with transparency works fine, however. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:

Created attachment 54847 [details] Screen grab - working Screen grab showing gnome-panel 2.12.x and same transparent PNG backgrounds.
I am having the same issue with the recent release of gnome-panel 2.12.2
It does work here. What distribution are you using?
is that theme dependend? what architecture/video driver do you use?
Seems not to matter what theme I've tried (Clearlooks, Bluecurve, etc.) This is Gentoo Linux. I'm using the closed-source Nvidia driver on an AMD64. Everything is compiled with gcc 3.4.4 with CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -Os -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" All things being the same, it works just fine on gnome-panel 2.12.1. But I experience this problem on anything newer than that. The only other thing I can think of to tell you is I have /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop turned off.
