Description Calum Robinson 2005-11-06 12:31:27 UTC
I tried setting the theme for the login window several times, until I realised
that it wasn't working because I was only clicking on the name of the theme, and
not the little radio buttons to the left. IMO the radio buttons should be
removed so that this list works like all other similar lists (e.g. the desktop
background chooser or the window theme chooser).

It is annoying, but how else would you allow users to delete a theme if you can't select it and click the delete button. Currently we do not allow the user to
delete the theme that has the checkmark, since it is the active theme.

If we changed it so the theme is selected just by clicking on it, then what do we do for delete? Clicking on it would select the theme, and if we allowed the delete button this would delete the theme leaving the user with no theme. What theme would then become the user's theme? What if the user deleted the last theme?

Maybe this could be handled a bit nicer, but it should be done in a way that allows delete, I'd think.

In that case you could have an 'Apply' button, that applies the selected theme in the list. The current theme would have to be visibly distinct from the selected theme, though (maybe its name could be in bold text).

Ah i think it is a matter of personal preference. I think once you figure out how it works its quite nifty to use. Also the docs clearly state:
BEGIN QUOTE
Note that the checkbox to the left of the theme's name must be checked for a theme to be selected. Clicking on the theme, but not selecting the checkbox will highlight the theme and the "Remove" button can be used to delete the theme.
END QUOTE
I think it would take much longer to select a theme then click on the Apply/Select button as compared to just selecting a radio button. It might also create the confusion betwwen Single/Random theme views. What about:
1. All the themes appear with the "normal" font setting and selected ones with bold.
2. Double clicking is equivalent to selecting that partifcular radio box.

Or do you still think its necessary to have an Apply/Select theme button?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
