GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 320483
Printing Gannt chart text mirrored
Last modified: 2009-04-18 23:59:41 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I print a GANNT chart from Planner all text appears in approximately the right place. It is not useable though, as it is mirrored up side down. I have Planner installed on a PC using Windows XP Steps to reproduce: 1. Create one or more tasks. 2. Print the GANNT chart. 3. Actual results: Text is printed. All letters are printet upside down (each line in almost it's proper place) Expected results: Text printed normally oriented Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Happens with my winplanner 0.13 on WXP in case of *PDF*! If I print into *Postscript* everything looks much more as expected! No mirroring!
Happens to me with Windows XP on a 0.14 build with my Epson Stylus CX3200 printer. PDF works fine. Can't get post script to work as I my printer is USB. There appears to be a margins issue too, on the regular print, the week numbers do not print nor does the box around the chart but this could be related to the mirrored upside-down text problem.
I have this same problem when printing the Evolution calendar. Is that the same as "planner"? Are there any workarounds or patches for this problem? I'm running Evolution 2.8.2 on WinXP, and the printer is an HP Photosmart C3180 all-in-one.
(In reply to comment #0) Hi. I originally reported my observation as an aid to the generous guys doing the development og this product, as I found it nice and useful. I haven't seen any answers telling anybody is interested inthis matter - apart form other users reporting similar findings. So I could try to withdraw my finding, noting that the open source model works only so far as the developing team/guy still has got the focus and the resources, and that this is obviously not the case with "Planner". To me that's a pity, as I had hoped the model would prove viable for people having professional needs though being unable to contribute themselves to the actual developing proces. Sadly. I must conclude that it seems that the model only works when some company gets involved in a product. Best wishes to the Open Source enthusiasts as well as the creative developers!
Use the PDF print option which works. The Windows printing driver is broken (libgnomeprint). Nobody worked on it. I don't have time to work on it. I started migrating to the new GTK printing but life caught me at the moment, so I have not been able to do anything for a while. If a company has vested interested in a project, things get fixed faster. Otherwise, you have to depend on people's free time. My free time is down and that means I cannot do much with Planner.

I really appreciate all the work enthusiasts put into open source products. In fact I enjoy using quite a number of them. I also fully understand that most projects are hobby-like so it isn't fair to expect that anyony should plunge into solving any problem any user could possibly think of reporting. Quite to the contrary. All I in fact did wish to make a note about was that the minor hiccup I had reported did not ever trigger any remark to tell me - and others - that this specific finding was not of a kind that would be looked into. My reason for looking at Planner - and indeed report the misprinting - was that my company at the time was looking for a tool like Planner and that I thought that it might do the job, if only this minor thing was amended. It is now long since and I have myself moved on in the company, so it is no longer of any great interest to me. I wish you a very great career and hope that your projects will develop successfully! Best wishes!
Hi all, I was wondering if Manfred Usselmann managed to compile a windows binary for 0.14.3 (http://mail.gnome.org/archives/planner-list/2008-May/msg00001.html). Thank you Francisco for all what you have done. I hope things will get better for you. Max
