GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 319454
Allow splitting a terminal window
Last modified: 2021-06-10 16:20:01 UTC
Please add a terminal window splitting feature. I have seen this in the Mac OS Terminal application. Basically you can split the window to see view different parts of the scrolling window at the same time. It is implemented by a small icon on top of the scroll bar, it toggles the split state.

It look related to the work on bug #103770
(In reply to comment #2) > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 331621 *** > Not sure why was this flagged as a duplicate. It is related to #331621, but not the same thing. This issue asks for the possibility to split a terminal window, while #331621 asks to chain terminal windows. #103770 definitely looks like a prerequisite.
The Terminator is good to fix your need, you can try it. The project website is http://www.tenshu.net/terminator/. I think it will be better if the terminal can add the feature or provide plugin development.
I doubt that 'terminator' has the feature requested, since it depends on vte work being done first, which hasn't happened.
