Description Mikel Ward 2005-10-18 00:19:58 UTC
Distribution: Ubuntu 5.10 (breezy)
Package: Evolution
Severity: Normal
Version: GNOME2.12.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: find in message menu should be under search
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Shell
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Description of Problem:
Try to search within a message.

Attempt 1:
Press Control+F, a very common keyboard shortcut for find

Result:
Forwards message

Attempt 2:
Press Control+E, knowing that that's what Microsoft Outlook 2003 uses
and the Evolution tries to copy it

Result:
Expunges deleted messages

Attempt 3:
Notice there's a Search menu, click on it

Result:
Find now is grayed out, go away disappointed

Attempt 4:
Remember weird applications used to have Find under the Edit menu, look
there

Result:
Found!

Since Evolution has a Search menu, the logical location for thie search
within message function is there. Searching and finding has nothing to
do with editing!

It would also be nice if Evo supported type-ahead find using the slash
(/) keyboard shortcut, but that's a separate request.

Comment 1 Mikel Ward 2005-10-18 00:44:03 UTC
Since the current behavior seems to be the one recommended by the GNOME HIG, I
sent mail to usability@gnome.org to get some more input on this.
Comment 2 André Klapper 2005-10-25 08:20:45 UTC
adding dependency. could be NOTABUG because evolution has to do what the HIG says
Comment 3 Subodh Soni 2005-11-09 08:27:51 UTC
Andre: What shall we do with the status of this bug ? Can we go ahead and mark
it as NOTABUG according to the HIG specs. ?
Comment 4 Srinivasa Ragavan 2006-01-13 12:23:35 UTC
michael,

Im closing the bug as NOTABUG, since evolution has to *follow* what HIG states. Please reopen with the response of the usability team.
