GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 318309
request for XSPF playlists support
Last modified: 2011-08-17 17:46:19 UTC
This is a request to support XSPF playlists. XSPF is an open XML playlist format under the Xiph.org umbrella. * links to other players, preferrably Open Source and working on Unix VLC is planning XSPF support for the version after 0.8.4. Other open source Unix players include Gnomoradio and Serpentine. http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/ is a popular open source Flash player which supports it. Yahoo Music Engine, which isn't open source and doesn't work on Unix, supports it. See http://xspf.org/applications/ for list of other players. * links to explanations of the format. See http://xspf.org/quickstart/ * ways to obtain mediafiles in that format to test. All playlists on http://webjay.org can be fetched as XSPF by appending .xspf to the playlist URL. There is a Drupal module to create XSPF: http://drupal.org/project/playlist There is a Wordpress plugin to create XSPF: http://www.boriel.com/?page_id=12 (The submitter is project mom for XSPF. You can contact me directly at lucas@gonze.com).
Reassigning to -bad, since new elements usually get added there first. Currently GStreamer does not handle any playlist formats at all though, so far it is up to applications to handle this.
Is it GStreamer not rhythmbox issue?
At least not gstreamer as we don't do playlists. Lucas, sorry for letting this rot here. Maybe it would fit totem-playlist parser.
Lucas, totem-pl-parser already has support for reading and writing XSPF playlists. Are there any specific features that you would want handled that totem-pl-parser does not already handle?
Thanks for rescuing this, Stefan. Bastien, I would consider any feature requests for totem-pl-parser a separate conversation. I'll see if anybody in the XSPF community has thoughts on it. In the meantime let's close this.
