Description C Shilpa 2005-10-07 09:01:39 UTC
Version details: 2.4.1
Distribution/Version: SLP 10

While configuting mail id I gave wrong ip address and evolution kept prompting
for password giving a message 'Unable to authenticate to Groupwise server.
Please enter the groupwise password for xyz@<server-ip>.

What i think is
i) if the user enters the wrong ip address, evolution should throw some error
message. I think evolution should first detect the poa in the mentioned system
and then prompt for password. If the poa is not detected then evolution should
throw an error message saying 'Wrong ip address of server'

Or ii) should prompt for password for the first time after configuring the
account and throw an error message saying 'Error connecting to server' or
something similar.

For (1) There is no way any mail-client can do this. A no response might be due
to many factors like n/w down, poa crash etc. So evolution cant detect if the
user has entered the correct i.p. address.

For (2), we popup the same dialog for all the providers and not just for gw. In
the error dialog, we clearly specify that Evolution cant connect to the server
specified. Only if the user wants to connect again, he enters the password.
Otherwise, he can "Cancel" and proceed.

I feel this can be closed.
