Description Prognathous 2005-09-27 09:03:34 UTC
GIMP/Win32 looks out of place and confusing on Windows. There are two possible
solutions to make it more consistent with the look & feel of the platform:

1. Make it MDI (all documents in one parent window).
2. Keep it SDI, but add a gray-colored "container" window for each image (and
for a new GIMP window that doesn't have any loaded image yet). All floating
windows/menus should be confined to this window.

Other information:
For reference, compare Adobe Photoshop on Windows vs. MacOS. The former uses the
gray workspace concept, the latter uses GIMP-like floating windows. Both make
sense when the platform UI conventions are taken into account.

Thanks,

Prog.

Apparently you didn't even spend a second searching for duplicates.

Actually, I did several searches (for "Windows", "Win32", "Floating" and a few
others). Too bad Bug 7379 has such a hard to find summary.

Thanks for the warm welcome,

Prog.

No need to CC the core developers, they get all the Bugzilla spam anyway.

Of course we know about the issues with window management on the Win32 platform
and we are working on it. You didn't seriously believe this wouldn't have been
reported before, did you?
