Description André Klapper 2005-09-26 09:45:19 UTC
it isn't mentioned anywhere in evolution-2.4.pdf that "check incoming mail for
junk" under "edit | preferences | mail preferences | junk | general" only refers
to POP and Local delivery; and only for IMAP you must have "check new messages
for junk contents" under "edit | preferences | mail accounts | edit | receiving
options | options" enabled.

also, spamassassin needs at least 200 messages marked as spam or ham to kick in,
so one has to train the filter.

also, one must have spamassassin installed on the computer to use it in
evolution, it is NOT built-in and an external dependency. also the user should
make sure that the plugin is enabled (under "edit | plugins").

on page 99 of evolution-2.4.pdf, why is there an "*" after the term "spamsassassin"?

all this leads to confusion and should also be mentioned in the docs, and not
only in bug 264455 :-)

This particulra part ain't a bug. If a user needs to read the manual in order to grok a mail client, he can not be expected to grok and install dependencies manually. In this case, the packager needs to take care about the dependencies and make it automagically work.

Evolution 2.8 User Guide has been updated to include all the missing information pertaining to setting up SpamAssassin.
