Description Jürg Billeter 2005-09-16 11:26:49 UTC
Version details: 1.4.0
Distribution/Version: paldo 1.3

The LDAP backend only uses the combined homePostalAddress attribute instead of
the homeStreet, homeCity,... fields. This causes nasty problems with regarding
to interoperability as the combined field can't be easily separated later but
the other way round would be a non-issue.
The automatic merge of the single address fields may be correct in the US but is
wrong at least in some parts of Europe. That makes it impossible to use
Evolution with LDAP backend for mail merge.
An additional side effect is that for example Symbian-based phones have a
maximum field length that is often shorter than the combined address; if the
entries were separated, the fields wouldn't be cut.
