GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 316429
Unable to use hidden folders as mount points
Last modified: 2010-10-16 02:01:11 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I try to hide my mount points, Nautilus no longer shows my CD-ROM, and Memory Stick devices. For example: /usr/home/james/.mnt/cdrom (does not work) /usr/home/james/mnt/cdrom (does work) Steps to reproduce: Use hidden folder names (dot in front of name) Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information: I'm running FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE. I am still able to mount hidden mount points from the command line using: mount /usr/home/james/.mnt/cdrom The main reason I'd like to be able to have hidden mount points is because when I setup FreeBSD and GNOME for friends, I always have to tell them not to delete, and ignore the "mnt" folder in their home directory.
In nautilus you can hide files and folders without having to preceding them with a dot '.' . Just add the files or folders you want to hide in each line of a .hidden file. For your case you could do: $ echo "mnt" > /usr/home/james/.hidden This is only for Nautilus, gtkfilechooser will show it as it doesn't support .hidden file.
