GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 315420
nautilus demands password for remote bookmark before going to bookmark
Last modified: 2006-08-04 12:55:26 UTC
Please describe the problem: If a nautilus bookmark is made for a remote location which requires a password, upon subsequent logins the Gnome Main Menu (possibly Nautilus browser as well) is not accessible until a password for the remote location is given. This is before trying to actually go to the remote location. In short, the Gnome desktop is not usable until each password for bookmarked remote locations is given. Steps to reproduce: 1. make a nautilus bookmark to a remote location which requires password 2. log out of Gnome so that password is no longer in Nautilus's memory 3. Try to use the Gnome Main Menu Actual results: A pop-up dialog demands the password for the bookmarked remote location Expected results: Nothing. A demand for the password shouldn't happen until one actually tries to access the remote location. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
It looks like 2.12.1 fixed part of the problem: Going to Gnome Main Menu no longer results in a demand for password. But going to Gnome-Panel properties does demand a password. Steps to reproduce: 1. make a nautilus bookmark to a remote location which requires password 2. log out of Gnome so that password is no longer in Nautilus's memory 3. Try cutstomize Gnome-Panel by selecting Gnome-Panel properties Expected results: Nothing. A demand for the password shouldn't happen until one actually tries to access the remote location. Does this happen every time? Yes
This is not just for nautilus. The same problem occurs with gedit or file-roller when the gtk open file dialog is brought up. These applications are requesting access to the key ring just to show the file selection dialog. Should this bug be reassigned to further down the stack? The toolkit itself maybe?
