Description Martin West 2005-09-01 15:36:33 UTC
I often get IMAP4 server unavailable errors (which I shouldn't). When the error
message pops up, I cannot kill it with the escape key as is possible with many
other gnome applications. This is annoying and means I have to use my fiddly
touchpad.

Other information:
Could the dialogue box either by non-modal, not steal focus and disappear after
a few seconds; or, could the warning be presented in the status bar instead?
Comment 1 André Klapper 2005-09-05 15:42:39 UTC
presenting the warning in the status bar is bug 247373, so if you'd be content i
would close this one here as a duplicate of bug 247373.
i do not know what the HIG (gnome human interface guidelines) says about those
pop up windows though, only remember that *some* should be closed when pushing
excape, and some of them not, depends on the case... :-/
Comment 2 Martin West 2005-09-06 07:13:16 UTC
HIG:
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/windows-alert.html#alerts-error
"However, an error encountered in an automated periodic email check would more
appropriately report failure with a statusbar message."

I'd say that naviagting the folders of my mailbox would be 'automatic' checking;
I didn't click send/receive mail.

The HIG does say that ENTER should dismiss such an alert, but I would argue that
ESCAPE should, too, for consistency with information alerts: there is no choice
for either. Bug against HIG?

Anna:could you please update this bug
Comment 5 André Klapper 2006-06-03 09:16:25 UTC

Comment 6 Matthew Barnes 2008-03-11 00:25:20 UTC
Bumping version to a stable release.
Comment 7 Paul Bolle 2008-12-17 12:08:31 UTC
This warning seems long gone (see comment #1). I guess it's best to transfer the Escape and Enter keybindings discussion to bug #302057.
