GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 314646
Ctrl-Tab to change between recent tabs
Last modified: 2013-06-23 18:51:06 UTC
Almost every modern tabs-enabled editor uses Ctrl-Tab for moving between recent tabs. Gedit should be consistent with this de-facto standard. Other information:
Yes! second that. Please change the ctrl-tab key binding to this more standard behaviour.
How does this play with the accessibility use of ctrl+Tab? Personally I am not opposed to it[1], but I'd like to hear the opinion of accessibility/usability people. setting usability keyword. [1] If we override ctrl+tab I'd much rather use tab and ctrl+tab to indent/unindent :)
We decided to use Tab and Ctrl+Tab for mass (un)indentation. To move between tabs in gedit you can already use Alt+[0-9] and Cltr+Alt+Page[Up|Down]. Closing as WONTFIX.
Paolo, note that mass indent will use tab and shift+tab. The problem with ctrl tab is that is the generic focus movement keybing, which is fundamental for accessibility reasons. This has come up recently on usability list http://mail.gnome.org/archives/usability/2006-March/msg00014.html beside if it ever this decision changes, it should really be done at the GtkNotebook level not by gedit.
