Description Andrew Schulman 2005-08-25 15:47:35 UTC
Distribution/Version: XP SP2

(1) Run File -> Open Location...
(2) In the URI box, enter: http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/bugz/ploticus.png

Result: a popup error dialog appears, with the message:

PNG Image message:

Could not open 'C:\Documents and Settings\aschulma\My Documents\My
Pictures\http:\\home.comcast.net\~andrex\bugz\ploticus.png' for reading: Invalid
argument

(Besides the fact that GIMP is looking in the wrong place, I'm offended that it
thinks I would store my pictures in the idiotic "My Documents\My Pictures" folder.)

Just a clarification: that last bit was supposed to be a joke. I think it came
off wrong. No insult intended to the developers.
Comment 2 Sven Neumann 2005-08-25 19:34:46 UTC
are you sure that you entered http:// (with slashes) and not http:\\ (with
back-slashes)? The latter is not an URL and as a fallback the code tries to open
a local file then.
Comment 3 Michael Schumacher 2005-08-25 19:40:27 UTC
This is actually a duplicate of bug 300581. No one implemented http:// (or other
protocols except file://) on this platform so far.

Comment 4 Sven Neumann 2005-08-25 20:02:14 UTC
Perhaps Open Location shouldn't be in the menus then?
Comment 5 Andrew Schulman 2005-08-25 20:04:20 UTC
Thank you, I'll follow the other bug.
