Description red_dragon_tattoo 2005-08-22 23:45:22 UTC
Many Windows users have had trouble with The GIMP's multiple user interface.
This issue may have already been addressed in the upcoming release, but I
thought I should just mention it anyway.

Joe Marshall created a plugin (http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=3892) that
gives The GIMP a background window which contains all other windows. It makes
things look alot neater. The only problem is, the main window's menu is for the
plugin and not for The Gimp, which makes it a little confusing for users.

I suggest that The Gimp have this single window feature as part of the standard
interface that can be turned on or off in its settings (on by default). The main
(backkground) window's menu bar will then be what the existing menu bar on The
GIMP's tools window is. This will give The GIMP a Photoshop feel to it.

For all the people asking for it, nobody actually seems to want it badly enough
to actually implement it in a sane fashion.

And then, you can already put tools/layers/etc... into a single window using the
dockable system, so the bug summary was very misleading.
