GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 314059
win32 fails to print single character cells
Last modified: 2006-09-07 18:07:05 UTC
Distribution/Version: XP Home Make a cell with a single letter or a single number in it. This character will show up in Print Preview, it does not show up when printed on my Minolta PagePro 1250W laser printer from Windows XP Home Service Pack 2. I will attach the file, Luxine.gnumeric. This hapens under 1.5.2 rc2 & 1.5.3 rc1.
Created attachment 51045 [details] Example. Cells A1 through A8 do not print. To get single characters to print I made them text and added blank spaces.
Would you be able to print that fie to a postscript file and attach that post sript file please?

If you send the postscript file (which does contain those single characters in A1 through A8) to your printer) does everything print correctly?
I do not know if my printer can print a postscript file, I tried SendTo and there was no Print selection in it. I am a recent user of Windows and XP, I do not know any other operating system.
This may help: I have just tried printing a simple test sheet from 1.5.5rc1 (Windows XP with PostScript printer driver). Not only do single character numeric cells not print but single character axis tick labels in plots do not print either. (2 digits print, 1 digit blank) I can send a PostScript file if you need it.
A postscript file would be helpful, if you can also tell us whetehr sending that postscript file to the printer shows those single characters or not.

I am happy to send the worksheet and the PostScript output. Unfortunately the PostScript file prints perfectly on the same printer. I have re-checked that direct printing still fails. (PDFs are fine too) I wish that I could give you more to go on
Created attachment 51705 [details] PostScript output for table.gnumeric Included for reference. This prints correctly when sent to the same printer that fails when printing directly from gnumeric
gnumeric doesn't do anything differnent between creating a postscript file and printing to a printer directly. In fact it doesn't even know where it is printing to (that is handled by libgnomeprint.) So this should be a libgnomeprint or lower level bug.
at least reopening as requested information has been provided.
