Description Diego González 2005-08-18 11:49:15 UTC
sometimes when opening the main menu scrollbars are shown on the upper and
botton parts of the menu, it happends even when the menu would fit nicely on the
screen without the need of scrolling.

This only happends sometimes, it seems that it happends when loading the
contents for the first time or after a long time without it being used. If after
this I close and reopen the menu everything is fine again, the menu is shown
without scrollbars.

Sorry I can't provide a screenshot as when that happends i can launch the
screenshooter using the keybinding for some reason.

easy way to get the bug:
* use a left/right panel
* put a main menu icon on the top of it
* put the mouse cursor somewhere on this panel further than the menu length
* press alt-F1

Fixed in HEAD.
Comment 3 Diego González 2006-02-19 03:50:49 UTC
this bug is back
Comment 4 Vincent Untz 2006-03-07 08:04:53 UTC
I can't reproduce. What is your layout? Where is the panel and where is the menu? How do you open the menu?
Comment 5 Diego González 2006-03-07 09:42:55 UTC
the menu (Main menu) is on the bottom left corner of the screen. It contains the standard items, i have not changed anything. Which is:

Accesories
Graphics
Internet
Office
Programming
Sound & Video
System Tools
----
Places
Desktop
----
Lock screen
Log out diego ...
Shutdown ...

to open the menu i just click on it with the mouse.
Comment 6 Brendan McCarthy 2006-04-23 12:20:28 UTC
Seems to happen due to the menu displaying before the icons are loaded. When the icons are loaded the vertical size of the items is increased, but the top-left of the menu is fixed, being jammed against the bottom of the screen it decides to go into scroll mode instead.

Either the fixing point of the menu should be changed to reflect the panel orientation, or the correct amount of vertical space (enough to display the icons) should be reserved.

I see that this bug (along with duplicate bug #331780 and probably a few other duplicates) remains unconfirmed. However, it has existed for the past year and a half since I've begun using gnome and remains with the latest Fedora Core 5 and Dapper beta distributions (gnome-panel 2.14.1).

Just wanted to mention that this I'm seeing this bug as well, approx once a day, on an FC5 installation.

(just updated to gnome-panel-2.14.2-1.fc5.1)
Comment 9 Steve Baker 2007-01-05 19:56:51 UTC
I'm still seeing this on Edgy installed on multiple PCs. This should be easily reproduced by placing the Menu Bar on a bottom panel and selecting a menu as soon as you log in.
Comment 10 Steve Baker 2007-01-06 04:14:13 UTC
I think that #321462 is the same as this bug, but occurs when the menu is in a top panel. Can someone with the permissions add #321462 as a depends-on?
Comment 11 n0dalus 2007-01-29 11:27:25 UTC
I also get this bug with 2.16.1 on Fedora Core 6.
Comment 12 Steve Baker 2007-05-10 02:40:58 UTC
Since upgrading to Feisty I haven't had the problem any more. Seems to be fixed.
Comment 13 Vincent Untz 2007-05-10 08:40:31 UTC
Oh, yes I fixed it a few months ago. Forgot to close all the bugs reporting it.
