Description Johannes Rohr 2005-07-15 11:52:05 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1
Package: gnome-panel
Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.10.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Debian
Synopsis: Gets added twice to session
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-panel
Bugzilla-Component: Panel
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Description of Problem:

Since I upgraded to the latest gnome-panel and gnome-session yesterday,
the panel misbehaves. On startup a warning box pops up, saying, not
starting panel as another panel was already found running

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Turn on auto-save session
2. Log off
3. Log on

Actual Results:

the above warning

Expected Results:

How often does this happen?

always if auto-save session is enabled.

Additional Information:

In the session file, I find /two/ entries for gnome-panel even though
only one process is running. This is fully reproducible.

From my ~/.gnome2/session:

[Default]
0,id=11c0a8011f000112142580000000148370007
0,Program=gnome-panel
0,CloneCommand=gnome-panel
0,RestartCommand=gnome-panel

[...]

10,id=11c0a8011f000112142579900000148370002
10,RestartStyleHint=2
10,Priority=40
10,Program=gnome-panel
10,CurrentDirectory=/home/jr
10,CloneCommand=gnome-panel --sm-config-prefix /gnome-panel-w4H543/
10,RestartCommand=gnome-panel --sm-config-prefix /gnome-panel-w4H543/
--sm-client-id 11c0a8011f000112142579900000148370002 --screen 0

If I remove the first entry and click on "apply", the panel is killed
and then restarted. If I remove the second entry, both entries get
removed from the session. The panel gets killed /without/ being
restarted. When I finally relaunch panel manually, I end up with two
session entries again.

Now, is it the panel or the session manager who gets things wrong?
