GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 310084
libwnck shouldn't be using ASCII art to display window status
Last modified: 2005-07-12 13:47:41 UTC
The use of [Name] and =Name= to display minimized and shaded windows is both ugly and non-obvious. Shaded icons are more than adequate to indicate that the window isn't currently visible.

Confirming because this annoys me too.
Another vote for no brackets; same as bug 155876 which is yet another dup/extension of bug 91655... I think I'm in favor of this proposal (especially since the trailing bracket is often cut off by the ellipsizing), but if we change behavior in libwnck then we also need to change Metacity at the same time (the alt-tab popup uses the same methods as libwnck for displaying windows). If you can convince Havoc to take the change in Metacity, and the usability people don't object, I think this patch would be fine. I'm going to mark as a duplicate but make note of the patch... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 91655 ***
