Description j^ 2005-07-08 13:34:26 UTC
right now if you open a folder in list view,
expand some subfolder, and close the window
the next time you open the folder all subfolders
are closed.
the state of expanded subfolders should be saved
and maintained.

the issue is mentionned by #308934 too

Couldn't reproduce the bug on Nautilus 2.25.1. Maybe this issue should be closed.
Comment 4 Cosimo Cecchi 2008-11-10 19:56:06 UTC
This still applies.

My comment from bug 586067, revised so it applies here:

State is already saved for view (icon, list, compact; sort order; etc), as well
as for children in its view (emblems). I'd expect that folded/unfolded state
could be saved in the same way as emblems, in the parent of the affected folder
(thereby saving some iterations when displaying a folder with several child
folders):

1. For each folder, save the folded/unfolded state of its child folders.
2. When opening folder "x" in list view, unfold its children marked with this
state.
3. For each child with children of its own that are unfolded, unfold them.
4. Repeat recursively.

Updating component.
Comment 9 Cosimo Cecchi 2012-03-13 05:34:10 UTC
Spatial view was removed in 3.0, so we can close this as OBSOLETE.

Well, except that this applies equally as well to the browser view; see Mac OS X.

My original bug report (closed as a dup of this one, see above) was general, never just for spatial view.
Comment 11 Vadim Rutkovsky 2012-03-14 12:43:03 UTC
This bug is still actual - can be reproduced in List view, see duplicated bug 621308
Comment 12 Cosimo Cecchi 2012-03-14 14:00:49 UTC
Okay, reopening.

I am really not a fan of saving this state across restarts of the application, or different windows, but we should support it for refreshes of the same view and possibly going back/forward in history.
Comment 13 William Jon McCann 2012-07-20 21:43:25 UTC
My understanding of this is that it only affects the tree like structure that used to be in list view. This is no longer in master.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
